On my second trip through the lobby I took time to notice more details of the old building. The marble floors, plaster walls and antique fixtures were in pristine condition and I figured that was due to Foley’s diligence in overseeing his holding.

I followed Dupont down a long hallway to the back of the building where he unlocked a door, pushed it open and let me enter first.

Set up with an outer reception area complete with a desk and credenza and seating for about a dozen people, the next door led to a private office with large windows letting in a flood of light.

An ensuite bathroom, tiny kitchen and a storage room completed the unit. Nothing else I would need.

“This is perfect. I couldn’t have chosen a better office myself, Mister Dupont.”

He smiled. “I’m glad you like it, Miss Spencer. Foley was keen getting it set up for you. He had high hopes of you staying in Baton Rouge.”

That brought more tears and I had to fish in my purse for more tissues. “This has been an emotional day for me. I’ll have to take a day or two to get my head around this entire experience.”

After saying goodbye to Ron Dupont, I took my time traversing the lobby and when I went outside and stood on the sidewalk I looked up to see how many floors of offices I was currently the owner of. Six floors. The monthly income must be substantial.

My head swam with things I had to take care of. Time to go back to the hotel and relax with a cup of coffee.
